The Research School of Systems Engineering at Loughborough University has been established to provide a supportive environment for reseachers across the University and its partner organisations who specialise in any aspect of systems engineering including aerospace, electronic, health/medical, rail and civil engineering.

The Research School of Systems Engineering, spanning the three University Faculties and the Systems Engineering Innovation Centre, has been created to:

  • Provide a leading world class environment in order to encourage and foster interdisciplinary research in the systems engineering domain
  • Promote and enable the growth of interdisciplinary working in systems engineering across the boundaries between single disciplines, departments, and faculties
  • Enable integrated strategy development for interdisciplinary working in systems engineering and coordinate the execution of the strategy
  • Manage the research pipeline particularly to encourage and deliver significant research initiatives where the opportunity requires alliances either across Departments within the University or with key external collaborators
  • Create and encourage a community within the University
  • Establish and grow capability in the systems engineering area
